What are the benefits of assessments in the workplace and for potential employees?

Candidate Testing within companies across the world are usually made up of 3 types of assessments that include:

1. Cognitive Ability (Measures Capability and Potential)
2. Personality & Work Values (Measures Soft Skills)
3. Skills Testing (Measures Current Knowledge)

Both Cognitive Ability and Personality & Work Values tests are generally referred to as ‘Psychometric Tests’ and are explained in more detail below.

Cognitive Ability Tests (Capability and Potential)

  • Known also as intelligence, cognitive ability or IQ tests
  • Measure general problem-solving, as demonstrated by the ability to see relationships and solve problems
  • Measures the ability to learn quickly and to think on abstract and conceptual levels
  • Often includes measures of verbal reasoning, abstract reasoning and numerical reasoning
  • Verbal reasoning measures ability to think and reason using language
  • Abstract reasoning measures conceptual ‘big picture’ thinking
  • Numerical reasoning measures ability to think and reason using numerical concepts
  • Verbal, abstract and numerical reasoning have been demonstrated to be the most predictive measures of future job performance.

 

Personality & Work Values Assessments (Soft Skills)

Paints a detailed picture of a candidate by measuring specific personality traits and values.
